Data Sources

How MetroPH separates official, estimated, manually maintained, and community-submitted information.

No verified public live train-position feed is connected. Train markers are schedule-model simulations for demonstration, not observations of actual trains.

Information-type labels

Official source

Published by an operator or authority

MetroPH links the source and records a verification date where the dataset supports it. Official publication does not mean MetroPH updates automatically.

Estimated

Calculated, not observed

Derived from published routes, headways, distances, or durations. Actual conditions may differ.

Manually maintained

Curated in MetroPH

Reviewed records assembled from source material and local map checks. They can become outdated between reviews.

Community-submitted

Contributed and moderated

Submitted by a member and published only after review. It is not an official operator statement.

Stations, stops, and route patterns

Type: manually maintained from official and operator-published network information.

MetroPH’s station names, service membership, directional stop order, and supported transfer links are stored as curated datasets in Supabase with bundled fallback snapshots. Primary operator references include:

EDSA Carousel stop order and access notes are manually maintained. Confirm on-site stop locations and current operating arrangements before travel.

Fares and discounts

Type: official-source fare matrices, with manually maintained verification metadata.

MetroPH displays a fare only when an applicable station-pair matrix and source record are available. Current fare records reference operator or government publications from DOTr MRT-3, LRMC, LRTA, and applicable Philippine discount laws. The fare guide shows the source and effective or verification date when available.

MetroPH does not calculate an “official” fare from station count. If an exact applicable amount is missing or expired, the result is shown as unavailable rather than invented. Check the operator before travel.

Simulated train positions

Type: schedule-model simulation for demonstration—not live vehicle tracking or an observed estimate.

The map can calculate approximate positions from manually reviewed service windows, headways, directional patterns, and published end-to-end durations. It does not receive a train’s GPS position, official train identifier, delay state, or operational dispatch information.

Actual trains may differ because of delays, turn-backs, maintenance, crowding, incidents, and timetable changes. The map displays the input source dates and does not generate markers for a line when its inputs are insufficient.

Map tiles, geometry, and coordinates

Type: OpenStreetMap base map with manually maintained MetroPH coordinates and route geometry.

Base map tiles are provided through OpenStreetMap contributors and displayed with Leaflet. Station, stop, and place markers use coordinates stored in MetroPH rather than live geocoding.

Place pins aim to represent a practical visitor entrance when a verified one is available. Labels such as “entrance,” “building,” or “approximate” describe the record’s precision; they are not a claim of survey-grade GPS accuracy.

Famous Places, universities, landmarks, and photos

Type: manually maintained or community-submitted and reviewed.

Curated place records reference official destination, institution, tourism, city-government, or venue pages where available and include a verification date. Access directions can combine reviewed walking or documented local-transit instructions.

Published media stores the creator, source, licence, alt text, and review status when available. Community photos are held for moderation before public versions are produced. Published member contributions carry this notice: “Community-submitted recommendation. Information may change.”

Tourist phrases

Type: manually maintained language guidance.

English and Filipino phrases are curated for common travel situations. Pronunciation text is a practical approximation and does not replace guidance from a fluent speaker. Politeness and usage can depend on context.

Reviews, outages, and corrections

Supabase is the editable content source. Bundled JSON snapshots provide a dated fallback during a live-data outage; the interface should identify cached data when it is used. A successful empty dataset is not treated as proof that information does not exist.
